Terms of Use
Last updated: July 4, 2026
These terms apply when you use the Mountain Identifier app or this website. By using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
What Mountain Identifier does
Mountain Identifier identifies mountains and peaks from a photo and shows reference details such as name, country, range, elevation and prominence, along with a built-in guide. It is a reference and educational tool.
Identifications are a best-effort match, not a survey
The app returns its best-guess identification with a confidence score, and figures such as elevation and prominence come from public geographic sources. Results can be wrong, especially for obscure peaks, unusual angles, or poor visibility. Mountain Identifier is not a navigation, surveying, or safety device. Do not rely on it alone for route-finding, wayfinding, or any decision where a mistake could put you at risk — carry a proper map, compass or GPS and use appropriate judgement in the mountains.
Subscriptions and payment
Mountain Identifier offers a paid subscription. Subscriptions are sold and billed through the app stores — Apple's App Store and Google Play — under their terms. Payment is charged to your store account, and subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings; cancelling stops future renewals.
Acceptable use
- Use Mountain Identifier for your own personal, non-commercial reference.
- Don't attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or misuse the app or its identification service.
- Don't rely on the app as your sole means of navigation or safety in the mountains.
Availability and changes
We may update, change, or discontinue features of the app or website. We may also update these terms; when we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date above.
Disclaimer and liability
Mountain Identifier is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from your use of the app or reliance on its identifications.
